Weight Loss 101: The Sabatage

I posted a week and a half ago about getting back into shape and wanting to lose the rest of this baby weight. (Can you still call it baby weight if your oldest is 8?) Its update time and this topic will be about "the sabatage".

Everyone has one. It could be your spouse or significant other, your siblings, a friend, your parents or even your kids. They may not realize they are even doing it either. But they are. They constantly want to eat unhealthy things and bring you or beg for large quantities of candy, junk food, or fast food. I call it the sabatage.

My husband, who I know means well, fits this mold. He would have us eating out at fast food places for every meal, every day. I love fast food as well but I want to lose weight more. He's also a late night snacker. Its been really hard trying to lose this weight while living with someone who isn't on the same page. But at the same time it sort of helps because I'm learning to avoid certain temptations and to be stronger. Here are two things I've been doing:

1. Everything tastes better when you dip it. When my husband starts his late night snacking I slice up some fruit and dip away. I mix it up on the dip. If I've got a sweet tooth then I dip them in a small amount of caramel. If I just want to dip then I use fat free cottage cheese or peanut butter.
2. I bought a juicer. Now when my husband wants to eat fast food its not such a big deal anymore. I make a veggie drink and drink that up before I eat any of my dinner. This way I'm getting my veggie servings in with fresh vegetables and I'm not eating as much of the fast food. I usually end up eating half my sandwich and a small fry. So I still get to eat the fast food but I'm not going overboard by eating a 2000 calorie meal.

What kind of sabatage are you dealing with? How do you overcome it?

You wanna sell my what?!

So last night I'm about to leave to head off to go fry my skin at the tanning salon and my husband drops another crazy idea on me. He's all "hey lets sell your car!" And I'm all "what?! Let's sell your truck!" He ignored that one and just kept rambling on about how we should sell my car and that he already has a buyer lined up. huh, good to know.

I am a stay at home parent but I do drive quite a bit. I drive my son to and from school 5 days a week since his school doesn't have a bus system. I also have a 1 and 3 year old to entertain and errands to run. I know many other households do the whole one car thing but I have to be honest here and ask how the heck do you manage?

So back to my husband. He's all "I want to help out a guy at work. He's got bad credit and can only get XX amount for a car loan." So I'm like "well I'm glad you're trying to save the world one person at a time but I like my car and I don't want to get rid of it." So then he tries to guilt trip me by telling me about all the money we would save if we only had one car. Then I was all "Huh, and all this time I thought we could save money by you no longer smoking". He didn't like that either. In the end, the car stays and wife wins ;) Go me!

So tell me, are you a one car or two car family? If you only have one car then what do you do to make it work?

Losing Weight

Lets face it. Losing weight and getting into shape is hard and it sucks. There is no magic pill or wand that will magically make us the size we desire (unfortunately). We have to work for it and you won't work for it unless you truly want it.

A month ago I decided that now is my time. I'm ready to lose the extra pounds that I have gained from each of my pregnancies and get into the best shape that I can. Its important that I stick around on this wonderful Earth for as long as possible. I want to see my kids grow up. I want to see them start their own careers and families. I want to be around to see my grandchildren and play with them.

I'm going to be posting updates on my progress in hopes of inspiring any of my readers that getting into shape can be fun and it doesn't have to be hard or something dreaded. Like I said I made this decision about a month ago to lose these 15 pounds. And if I'm lucky then maybe even another 5 on top of that ;)

What have I been doing so far? Zumba actually. I gave into the infomercial and figured why not?! I don't have time to head over to the classes and it really does look fun. Plus my kids love to dance around so this might be something that they would join in on. So I bought this set on amazon. It was kinda expensive but the price fluctuates and it was $89.99 when i bought it. They also sell this set which averages around $55 and comes with a few less DVD's but still just as great. So far I've lost 5 pounds and I'm feeling pretty darn good about it!

If you're interested, join me in getting in shape. You can post your progress along with me and we can support each other. :)

Star Wars--The Complete Saga on Blu-ray

You all know that theme song~~ Dun, Dun, Dun-Dun! That's right! I'm talking about Star Wars. When Star Wars originally came out it was the year I was born, so needless to say I didn't get to experience this movie in the theaters. But I can imagine the total shock and awe that viewers must have felt back then. I'm sure it was amazing. If you're like me and you didn't get to see Star Wars in the theaters, you too can now satisfy your inner Jedi and buy the complete saga boxed set on blu ray. Just imagine the crisp clear pictures of the Millennium Falcon. How cool is that. My oldest son is obsessed with Star Wars and for as long as I can remember asked to be "Durth Vadher" for Halloween every year. He's now 8 and is still into Star Wars. What better way is there to watch this movie then by having a couple of his friends over and having a Star Wars party! Are you planning on buying this awesome boxed set? And who will you watch it with?

Root Candles

I've been a candle lover for as long as I can remember. When I was in high school I worked for a local candle store in the mall and it was my favorite place in the world. Walking  into (and even just past) the store you could smell this delicious fragrance that all the candles together seem to make. It was magical and I loved it so much that I began spending most of my paychecks on those very candles to put in my bedroom and around my parents house to try and get that candle store smell.

Every now and then I hear about an awesome candle company and I get excited to give them a try. Recently I heard about Root Candles. This is a five generation family owned company that promises only the highest standard of quality. Being that they have been around for more than 140 years I'm going to guess that they must know what they're doing. Looking at Root's pictures on their website the candles are beautiful and I'm sure you would agree. Root Candles offer different types of candles such as pillar, taper, jar, and dinner candles. Looking for a gift basket? They can help you with that as well. But lets talk about my most favorite part--the scents. I'm in total awe with some of these scents like Honey Butter CroissantCinnamon Apple, and Pumpkin Spice. Looking for something that won't make you want to eat all the contents in your refrigerator? Then try Crisp LinenWinter Walk or English Lavender. Either way you can't go wrong and your house will smell so delicious that you will be the envy of the neighborhood!

From lunch bags to LunchBots

For years now we have all been trying to do our part in helping the environment and improving our health and lifestyle. We recycle, we eat healthier and we try to use environmentally friendly products. That last one is probably the one we do the most. I stocked the house with reusable water bottles, i cut down on the amount of plastic bags we use for storage and I get paper bags at the grocery store instead of plastic just to name a few things.

One company that is doing their part is LunchBots. They make eco-friendly lunch and snack storage products that are made from the highest quality 18/8 food grade stainless steel. And that's including the lid. Using stainless steel in place of plastic means you're eliminating those harmful toxins that plastic containers often carry. LunchBots containers come in different sizes to accommodate lunches, snacks, baby food, and soups. That makes LunchBots great to take to work, the park, or for packing your kids school lunches or snacks. You can learn more about LunchBots here.

Toys R Us Free In-Store Event today!

September is Geoffrey the giraffe's birthday month and to celebrate he's having a free birthday party even today at your local store from 12pm-3pm.  Parades will begin at 12:30 and happen every half hour. They will have free giveaways and fun activities.

We have went in the past years and the kids usually get a goody bag with a ballon, some coupons and sometimes a small toy sample like a pack of Legos or play dough. The activities are usually toys set up to play with and coloring. Its tons of fun but the goody bags are limited so bring your kids early!

Bananagrams

I try to come up with ways to help my 8 year old son Hunter with spelling and reading to make it more fun for him since it's something he struggles with. Scrabble is one game that we play but with all the points and rules it can be hard for him. Plus it will take him forever at times to take his turn and then he gets bored with the game a little too fast.

Bananagrams is a game that I forgot about but thanks to BzzAgent (see who BzzAgent is below) I was quickly reminded. Bananagrams is perfect for anyone and that's including beginner spellers. How cool is that! Its a crossword style game that requires only the tiles. There is no score keeping, its just good old fashioned fun. Each person picks their alloted number of tiles from a face down selection on the table. Then someone says "split" and everyone flips over their tiles and starts to make words crossword style. The first person the use all their tiles yells "peel" and then all the players take another tile. If you are the first person to run out of tiles and there are no more tiles to take then you yell out "bananas" and you win! How fun!

The tiles are kept in a cute banana shaped bag that makes it easy to carry around making this an awesome travel game. We go on a lot of camping trips so I'm always looking for fun travel games that the whole family will enjoy and this is definitely a great travel game! I'm thinking this would also make a great addition to our family game nights. Even if I don't get picked for this Bzz Campaign I think this is one game I will have to buy very soon. ~~BzzAgent huntersmommy

So here's the thing. BzzAgent is this rockin word of mouth marketing company. Companies who need to get the word out about their product(s) hire BzzAgent to spread the word like a bunch of busy bee's. They get together at their "beehive" and find BzzAgents who fit the right demographics (age, gender, kids, single, location, you get the picture) that said company is looking for and ask them to spread the word by giving them a sample of the product to test out and usually some rockin coupons to pass out to people. Then the selected BzzAgents have to report back to the hive and dish out the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am a proud BzzAgent (BzzAgent name huntersmommy) and have been since 2006 thankyouverymuch!

Madden 12

Are you ready for some football!!! Its that time of year folks and let me tell you football is a big deal in our house. The Sunday Ticket through Directv is a subscription must each and every year. But what about during the off season? Well that's when video games come in and save the day! Today we're going to talk about Madden 12. Games have came a long way since Pac-Man and Madden 12 proves it. The graphics are so good it feels like you're watching an actual football game. How insane is that! Now I haven't played Madden 12 yet. The boys in my house are dying to give it a try. But I have read the reviews on it and I'm stunned! The reviews aren't that good but the main reason is that everyone is saying its not that much of a change from Madden 11. Correct me if I'm wrong but Madden 11 has great reviews so why change a good thing when you've got one? I would love the chance to test this game out and then come back on my blog and write this game a proper review. And not based on Madden 11, but based on Madden 12. We are football fans in this house and we are gamers as well so who better to choose? Go Ravens!! ~~BzzAgent huntersmommy

Burt's Bees Sensitive Line

Who doesn't love Burt's Bees? This company is rocking and if you have never heard of them or tried their products, then let me give you the skinny. Burt's Bees is a company that makes over 150 products and over half of these products are 100% natural. Their goal is to educate people about natural products and prove that not only are their products good for you, but they are also good for the environment. They make everything you can think of body care related from chap stick that will make your lips as smooth as butter to baby care products that will have your baby squealing with joy. Thanks to BzzAgent (see below) I just discovered one particular line they have that I never even knew existed. I'm talking about the Burt's Bees sensitive line! I don't know about you but I have sensitive skin and man does it irritate my face when i put on moisturizer that my skin doesn't agree with. I get all red and blotchy and my skin tightens up and just plain hurts and itches. It looks like Burt and his Bees have came up with an extra special line that is just for us sensitive people and they promise no irritation or redness. Now that makes me smile. This awesome line consists of a facial cleanser, a daily moisturizer, eye cream, and night cream. How awesome is that! I'm looking forward to checking these products out and I hope to come back and write a follow up review.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

So here's the thing. BzzAgent is this rockin word of mouth marketing company. Companies who need to get the word out about their product(s) hire BzzAgent to spread the word like a bunch of busy bee's. Below you will find my shameless begging to get into The Help Campaign. Wish me luck!

The first time I discovered the book The Help by Kathryn Stockett was actually because of the movie. I saw the commercial for it advertising its soon to be release date. Immediately I was interested and needed to know more about it. I looked online and that's when I discovered that this movie was actually based on a book and that the reviews were awesome. Everyone was saying the same thing "I didn't want it to end" I didn't want to put it down". Kinda crazy that this book is such a hit and now a movie but it was turned down 60 times before it was published. Kudos to Kathryn for not giving up! I haven't read the book yet but I did just read the first chapter thanks to a sample from Amazon.com and I'm dying to read the whole book.

From the first chapter that I have read and from the reviews of others, here is a summery. It takes place in the south during the early 60's and the civil rights movement. Basically a young white college graduate wants to write a book telling the stories of 3 black maids that work for white families and the mistreatments they deal with on a daily basis. I know I'm not telling you much but since I haven't actually read the entire book I am kind of limited on my information. But I can tell you that just from the first chapter that I read, I didn't want to put it down and I can't wait to read the whole book. Its no wonder they made a movie out of this book! I can't wait to see that too by the way! If I'm fortunate enough to get picked for this Bzz Campaign then I will return on here and write a proper review of the entire book. ~~BzzAgent huntersmommy

So here's the thing. BzzAgent is this rockin word of mouth marketing company. Below you will find my shameless begging to get into the Buckyballs Campaign. Wish me luck ya'll!

Ok so yesterday I was sitting in the waiting area of my doctor's office and I was totally bored out of my mind. I mean they give you an appointment time and all and they expect you to be there on time but then they make you wait for-ev-er before they even call you up.

Anyway, I'm flipping through all these gross and germ infested magazines hoping that i don't catch anything because I hate being sick and I'm all like this sucks. Then i started thinking about BzzAgent and all these super cool campaigns that I have the chance to get into. So i was all I need some Buckyballs and then I wouldn't be bored anymore. Then i started laughing to myself because I'm childish and the name Buckyballs makes me laugh. And the woman next to me moved her baby in the infant carrier to the other side of her. And i was all what? I'm just thinking about Buckyballs and she was all like um ok. Alright I didn't actually say anything to her but I was totally thinking it.

Anywho. These Buckballs look so fun and addicting. Its 216 magnetic little balls that come to you shaped together like a cube. They remind me of those mini rubics cubes but its different because you don't have to solve some ridiculous puzzle that only Will Smith can solve in some movie and you don't have to be all whatever Will I could totally do that too if I wanted.

So back to Buckyballs. You can squish them like a stress ball or pull them into a long chain. You can stack them or fold them. You can even pull them apart and make multiple little cubes. Or if you're really crafty you can practice your love of origami and make that ninja star you've always wanted to make. How cool would that be! These little magnetic balls just look so darn cute and fun and I totally need to try them.

You should know that Buckyballs are made of VERY tiny balls and are not intended for children of any age! I have young children so I plan on (if I get picked) keeping my Buckyballs in my purse in that side pocket the kids don't know about so they won't ever find them. Then when I'm sitting in a waiting room somewhere without the kids I can play with my Buckyballs all by myself. Wait a minute....

Below you will find my shameless begging to get into the Lawry's campaign. Cross your fingers for me ya'll!

Soooo, a typical whattomakefordinner conversation in my house goes a little something like this~~

Mike (my husband): What's for dinner?
Me: I was thinking chicken
Mike: silence
Me: what's wrong?
Mike: yeah i was thinking carl's jr.
Me: forget it we're having chicken
Mike: kids mom wants to make chicken for dinner
kids: what?! we're having chicken nuggets and fries!! oh oh! can we get it from McDonalds?!
Me: WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!

Apparently my chicken isn't that great. Can you tell? So i would say this is why I need something to help it along. Maybe that something could be Lawry's Seasoning Salts and Seasoning Mixes? (Hint Hint Jono). Its supposed to add some flavor to your chicken to make your taste buds dance around, jump for joy, and sing the hokey pokey. Ok, maybe not sing the hokey pokey but its supposed to be pretty darn tasty. I've tried their dry seasonings before and I do believe if taste buds could talk they would say thank you. But I've never tried their marinades. I would guess they would be just as yummy! Well hopefully I will very soon be lucky enough to find out. Oh! And if I'm lucky enough to get chosen, I promise to report here and let you know just how tasty my chicken was :)

BzzAgent is a word of mouth social marketing company. Basically it works like this--companies hire BzzAgent to market their product. If you are a member of BzzAgent and you fit the right demographic for said product (ie-the right age, gender, kids, single, where you live, etc) you may get selected to test the product and spread your word around about the product, usually along with coupons. Then you report back to BzzAgent and submit the good, the bad, and the ugly. Its a fantastic company and I have been a proud member since 2006.

A new product BzzAgent is marketing is the Dreamlight fireflies in a jar. How cool is that! I don't know about you but one of my favorite memories from when i was a kid is chasing lightening bugs. I would catch them in a jar and watch them flutter around and light up like magic. I was in complete awe and amazement. When my 8 year old was younger and we lived in North Carolina our entire back yard would fill up with lightening bugs and we would chase them and collect them in a jar. I saw that same look of awe and amazement in my son's eyes that i had at his age. Now i have 3 children but we live in the Arizona desert. No lightening bugs I'm afraid. Bummer? Maybe not after all. Enter the Dreamlights fireflies in a jar. This amazing little frosted glass lantern gives the effect of lightening bugs flying around! This is how it works. The lantern is solar powered so just set it outside during the day so it can charge up and then at night the little LED "fireflies" light up and flicker. You can also shake the lantern to light up the LED 'fireflies". It will run for hours of enjoyment after you solar power it up. No its not the real thing. But for people like me its the next best thing. I can honestly say this is a campaign that i hope i get into. If you're interested in signing up to be a BzzAgent you can do that here and i recommend that you do because (notice the iphone commercial rip off) if you're not a BzzAgent, well, then you're not a BzzAgent.
